AN INNER ADVENTURE IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE
There is only one journey—going inside yourself.

RAINER MARIA RILKE

San Miguel de Allende offers visitors seeking an adventure of the spirit a unique opportunity for personal growth. To refresh your soul, inspire your heart, and expand your inner horizons, here are the top ten exciting activities to connect with in San Miguel.

Tour the Seven Churches. No matter what religion or philosophy of life you follow, a walking tour of the seven Spanish Colonial Catholic churches in downtown San Miguel will nurture your soul. Soaring architectural splendour from a bygone age—in the service of the spirit.

Visit with Artists of the Spirit. Among the dozens of artists who make their homes in San Miguel

Soak in Sacred Thermal Springs. Just outside town are several natural thermal springs, which invite the solitary seeker to do a private cleansing ritual or simply relax. Link your time at the springs with a visit to the world-famous Sixteenth Century shrine in Atotonilco.

To make your stay in San Miguel an adventure of the spirit, consider undertaking one or more of these personal growth opportunities.

Artists of the Spirit

In a town legendary for its interest in and appreciation of the arts, it was natural that art would overlap with spirituality. For many artists in San Miguel, the town itself is a work of art imbued with many layers of spiritual meaning.

Personal Growth Retreats and Programs

Besides boasting an abundance of metaphysically prone artists, San Miguel is home to centres that explore personal growth.

LifePath Retreats are in-depth workshops designed to promote positive change in a person’s life. The retreats are for people who want to look deeper into their lives for meaning and purpose—to help them gain clarity and direction in many areas, including career, family history, creativity, mental and emotional well-being, and life passages.

Retreats are held once a month in the downtown centre. Special topics programs include Shaman Way, which gives people the opportunity to work with a shaman from Tepoztlan; Cosmic Consciousness, held during Semana Santa (Easter week); the Mysteries of the Enneagram, the ancient way of typing personalities; and the Divine Feminine, held during the festivals of Our Lady of Guadalupe. (Visit www.lifepathretreats.com for information and to view the retreat calendar.)

The Meditation Center of San Miguel offers classes and meditation sessions every day of the week. Visitors are welcome to enter and leave quietly at any time during the hours the center is open. (Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .)

Yoga from many spiritual traditions abounds in San Miguel. One of the most interesting is a yoga cooperative that operates out of the esteemed Bellas Artes. It is Hatha Yoga, intermediate and advanced levels, a gentle yoga for newcomers and people with physical limitations. Classes emphasize strength, stamina, flexibility and peace of mind.

Finally, still another reason the spiritual seeker will find much to admire about San Miguel de Allende—an obvious one, perhaps. In San Miguel, the seeker will discover a community of like-minded people who are on their own inner search. The support of others on the path can be most helpful. In the town of Saint Michael the Archangel, where traditional and contemporary spirituality blends and blossoms, the visitor making a pilgrimage of heart and soul will feel quite at home. PS
