The story goes that the reason the church was built in Jocotepec is that the patron of the hacienda always rode to church on Sunday morning and that he always made it just to the present day site of Jocotepec as the last bell rang for Sunday mass. In those days, the church was located in present day Jaltepec on the mountain above El Chante. There’s still a church there, but many years ago the main church was moved down the mountain for some unknown reason. But all this was before the dawn of ejidos and the abandonment of the haciendas.

Pepe Propina had no money. The Ojo had not bought the story he wrote about killing the Vampire of Ixtlahuacan. He knew nothing about Vampires, so he had gone to his Bisabuela for help.

“Pepe, you are my great grandson. I will help you. I know a great story about a Vampire. Just change the names and the places to make it more Mexican.”

After their sister Sylvia's 15th birthday party she went to live in Guadalajara. Thirteen-year-old Ricardo, one-year-old Sergio, and their two-year-old sister went to live with an aunt in Jocotepec. Strangely, I never learned the younger sister's name. She was simply referred to as "hermana."

 

I met their aunt at a party, accompanied by little "hermana" and the boys with her. I was a little miffed to see the pretty little girl dressed in jeans and a T-Shirt instead of one of the dresses I had given her.

Pepe was frightened. He needed help. Eureka, Margarita Sin Sal and the four Juans ! He met them last year covering the story about Margarita's nephew, Chico who tried to get the "Chicleros," kids who sold "Chicklets", at traffic lights in Guadalajara, to become "Bubleros," selling bubble gum. The whole scheme blew up in his face.

Failed Terrorist Attack

In a surprising revelation, Mexican authorities have released details of an attempted terrorist attack on Mexico that was also to have been carried out on 9/11/01. The terrorists' attempts were thwarted and many lives were saved. Mexico's intelligence agency uncovered a plot to fly an Aeromexico jet into the Torre Latina in Mexico City on September 11. According to one source, the terrorists failed to carry out their nefarious deed for a number of reasons.
