The Newbies

Gracious, how time flies when you’re having fun. Here it is the middle of October already. The snowbirds will be descending on us momentarily. There’s no doubt but they will bring with them lots of Newbies. I don’t have anything against Newbies in particular, it’s just that they are Newbies, and as such, don’t know much of anything. I’m sure they will all flock to Spanish lessons, go exploring after they “settle in”, observe things beyond their comprehension and pontificate about what they think those things are and why they are occurring, and most of all, they’ll be wired.

2 kms past the Point of No Return

You took highway 54!  At night!  In the rain!  Are you crazy?  You guys just did the equivalent of 2 tours in Nam!  As the comments came in about our choice of routes, that one’s my personal favorite. Then there was the story about the gringo guy, that everybody knew, who had recently driven down to Central America and on the way back up his VW broke down leaving him and his dog and his belongings vulnerable to highway thieves.  His body was found, but his belongings were not. Apparently we had chosen a major drug and gun running route through the Mexican outback for our route to paradise.

I wore a halter & shorts, standing knee deep in the water of our fish pond. The coy had congregated in the far corner of the basin. Now and then one of them would come up to nibble at my feet. Oriental carp are friendly, become almost affectionate when feeling safe in their environment.
