We've all heard of the "brain drain." Here at Lakeside, we seem to be suffering from a "Granny Drain." Too many good friends have left simply because, "Grandma misses her grandkids." Just the other day we met one of our best friends. He looked as though he had been enjoying a "happy hour" that had become a "happy week."

Swim with the Dolphins

A few months ago, I was at one of the all-time lows in my life and was frantically looking for something to take away the pain. My friend, Sam suggested I accompany his wife Judy at their timeshare near Puerta Vallarta and swim with the dolphins. It was something I did not know existed, let alone so close, but was ready for anything at that point. Figuring I had nothing to loose but a hundred bucks US, off I went for what was going to be an experience of a lifetime.

Learning From My Street Dog

It took only one glance, and I immediately knew she was the one. There was something about the way she looked at me as I stood in front of her cage at the shelter. She was lazily resting atop a four-foot high concrete ledge when I spotted her. As I approached, she lifted her head and looked me straight in the eye as if to say, "I'm no ordinary dog. This place is just temporary until I find a real home." An hour later she had a real home, with me.
