Welcome to my world of shopping. I love flea markets and have found several Sunday markets in Guadalajara. Two of them can be done on the same day. If you love antiques you will have a wonderful time at the antiques flea. It is located on a center strip of Avenida Mexico near Chapultepec. However, not everything you see is an antique. You need to know something about antiques. That being said, you just might find something you have to have and not worry if it is an antique. If you think the price is too high but would purchase it if it were somewhat less, try bargaining. It just might work. You need not go early to get to this flea market. Mid-morning is soon enough.

Directions: Take Lazaro Cardenas to the Chapultepec exit. Stay to the right on the side road. Turn right on to Chapultepec. Stay on Chapultepec to the end and then turn left onto Avenida Mexico. The market is right in front of you.

Next continue to the relatively small flea market in the Santa Teresita section of Guadalajara.  It is very close to the antique flea market. Here you will find a wide variety of goods, most of them new.  I bought a cordless phone the last time I was there. The Santa Teresita shopping area is known for its upholstery fabric shops and many discount stores. I will guide you through this area at a later time.

Directions: Turn left on the street that runs alongside Bodega (It’s a right and then left from Chapultepec). It will lead you to the flea market.

For the next flea market you will need good walking shoes and stamina. Go early as this market becomes packed as the morning progresses. It runs for a few miles, and there is so much to see you cannot begin to take it all in on one day. The quantity of goods and variety is huge. There are both new and used items. Interspersed throughout are restaurants and sellers of produce. Bootlegged CDs abound. You can buy used CD players and new or used televisions. Almost any computer peripheral or software package you might fancy is available. Videos and CDs in English can be had for as little as 20 pesos. The vendors will happily play them for you as well. Cordless, cellular, and hardwire phones sport recognizable brand names and factory-sealed packages. New and used clothing for men, women and children is found throughout. Toys catch the eye of the children of the families that make this a weekly outing.  Simple tools and power tools can be found at less than store prices. The usual array of things found in all flea markets will be found here tenfold.

Directions: Take the Guadalajara-Chapala Highway, exiting on to Ninos Heroes in Tlaquepaque. Stay on Nino Heroes until you see a building on your far left that has large orange arches. This is past the turn for the center. Turn left in front of the arches.  You are now on Gral Marcalino Garcia Berrigan. Drive about 1 mile and turn right onto Calzado Olimpica. In about 1/3 of a mile turn left onto Calzada Revolucion. About a half-mile later turn right at the corner is Khumo Llantes(a large tire store). Drive about 2 miles and find parking on the street. The market is located two blocks over to your left.

Last but not least is Tianguis Jipi(hippy). What you see is what it is. This is a very small fun place that is open on Saturdays. Here you will find throwbacks to those commune days of tie-died shirts, beads, and sundry items. You will also find many of the same things you find at the antique market but at a cheaper price. After you have enjoyed the Tianguis Jipi, check out the flower market, and since you are alongside Parque Agua Azul, enter and explore it.

Directions: Take the Guadalajara-Chapala Highway and do not exit until you come to Calzada Independencia. Turn left and stay in the center lane. When you get to the flower market, find parking. Tinguis Jipi will be on your right.
