Yeah, who are they? Well, be patient and I'll explain. These are some of the names of contributing authors with by-lines in Peterson Field Guide for Mexican Birds. These authors' contribution is to provide the reader and bird watchers with the voice of birds. Oh-oh. If you've spent any time in a bird book you may guess where I'm going.

Birds and Bird Watching at Lakeside

A few months ago I walked out of the main entrance of LCS on 16 de Septiembre and saw, standing in the entrance of a new gallery on the opposite corner, a man in a floppy hat.  A minute later this man, Allen Turner, served me exquisite coffee in his new gallery, Aves.  Aves Galería was created to feature children's art, largely produced in the Children's Art Program (started in 1956 by Neill James) which provides supplies and instruction to over 100 local children each Saturday morning at the Lake Chapala Society.

Egrets for the Birds

E-mail Print PDF
The dry season is upon us and we are all anxiously waiting for rain. As I walk along the shore in the morning I can see that the waters of Lake Chapala are continuing to recede. Many of the shore birds that were here in the winter, have left for their breeding grounds in the north. Proof of this is the easily obtained bird list one can get while taking a morning stroll in La Floresta in Ajijic. Or if you prefer, from the comfort of your terrace…wherever you may live at Lakeside. The Lake Chapala area is home to a wide variety of species…and the interested observer will have many opportunities to experience Mexican avian life. All it really takes is the ability to listen and look.
